The Wrong Box (1966) 1 hr 45 minutes
A tontine (an insurance scheme in which money invested by each participant grows with interest, and the last survivor gets the substantial payout) is established for 20 boys in 1818 England. The group dwindles until only two elderly brothers are left, one watched by nephews who’ll keep him alive at all costs, and the other living in ill health and poverty. Statues and bodies are switched, in the wrong boxes, until everyone is sure one of the brothers has died; if they can only make it seem as if the other brother died first, over a hundred thousand pounds will be theirs!
Stars Michael Caine, Ralph Richardson, John Mills, Tony Hancock, Peter Sellers, Peter Cook, and Dudley Moore. Won A BAFTA award.
