June 4   Blithe Spirit (1945) 1 hr 36 min.

To get background for a new book, author Charles (Rex Harrison) and his second wife Ruth (Constance Cummings) light-heartedly arrange for local mystic Madame Arcati (Margaret Rutherford)  to give a séance—which brings the author’s first wife Elvira (Kay Hammond) back from beyond the grave, and the fun begins…

Won a Best Effects Oscar. Cary Grant turned down the role of Charles. Now regarded as a classic, the film was a box-office flop and disliked by Noel Coward, who created the Broadway-hit play it’s based on. Coward’s snappy dialogue was heavily censored in the US release.
